Mitis Salivarius HiVegâ„¢ Agar Base is recommended for the isolation of streptococci, especially Streptococcus mitis, Streptococcus salivarius and Enterococcus faecalis from grossly contaminated specimens. Addition of potassium tellurite selectively isolates streptococci by inhibiting a wide variety of bacteria. Streptococcus salivarius can be differentiated as blue coloured colonies typically showing a gumdrop appearance while Enterococcus faecalis grow as blue-black coloured colony. Mitis Salivarius HiVegâ„¢ Agar Base is prepared by using vegetable peptones in place of animal based peptones which make the media free of BSE/TSE risks.
