1X Potassium Phosphate Buffer, pH 6.8 containing a mixture of monobasic and dibasic forms of potassium phosphate. This buffer helps in maintaining pH and provides phosphate ion. Phosphate buffer system plays a crucial role in maintaining the pH in the internal fluids of all cells. It consists of dihydrogen phosphate ions as the hydrogen ion donor (acid ) and hydrogen phosphate ion as the ion acceptor (base). Phosphate buffer has a very high buffering capacity and are highly soluble in water. It is commonly used as fixative for light and electron microscopy and to preserve the living tissues. It serves as a reagent in blocking buffer for immunolabeling.
