This liquid medium is a qualitative test recommended for detection of microorganisms in blood. The medium contains Brain Heart infusion Broth (BHI) , which is highly enriched and supports the growth of fastidious organisms. It contains 50 ml for adult use. Sodium polyanetholesulfonate (SPS), an anticoagulant which inhibits the antimicrobial systems of blood, is used widely in blood culture medium and cause an increase in recovery of these organisms.
