This slant is a selective and differential medium used for the detection and presumptive identification of dermatophytes from clinical and veterinary specimens. Identification is based on morphology and alkaline metabolites production. Cycloheximide, chlortetracycline and gentamicin inhibits bacteria and saprophytic yeasts and moulds. Phenol red is the indicator which raises the pH of the medium due to production of alkaline metabolites.
