This medium is recommended for simultaneous detection of Escherichia coli and total coliforms in water and food samples. The chromogenic mixture contains two chromogenic substrates, which enables the detection of two specific enzymes, ß-galactosidase and ß-glucuronidase. Bile salts inhibits gram-positive organisms.
