CF059 is recombinant human KGF expressed in E. coli, filtered through 0.22μ membrane filter and lyophilized (freeze-dried) from a solution containing 15mM sodium phosphate (pH 7.0) and 0.25M NaCl. In cell culture applications, FGF7 induces proliferation for many epithelial cells but not for fibroblasts and endothelial cells. It is a major growth factor for skin keratinocytes. Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF), also known as Fibroblast Growth Factor -7 (FGF-7) is a protein encoded by FGF gene in humans. It is one of the 23 known members of FGF family. FGF-7 induces proliferation for many epithelial cells but not for fibroblasts and endothelial cells. KGF is distinguished from other members of FGF family in that its receptors are present on epithelial cells and keratinocytes rather than mesenchymal cells. Moreover, it does not protect tumor cell lines from radiation effect whereas other FGF members exhibit in vitro radio- protective effect. KGF stimulates proliferation of primary and secondary human keratinocytes to the same extent as epidermal growth factor (EGF).
