It is a hematopoietic growth factor that promotes survival, differentiation and proliferation of committed progenitor cells of megakaryocytes, granulocytes-macrophage, erythroid, eosinophils, basophils and mast cell lineages. It is a potent growth factor of basophils that acts through specific receptors and mediates adhesion, migration and releasability.
