Pike Streptococcal Broth Base is recommended for selective enrichment and cultivation of Streptococci from throat swabs and other clinical specimens. Addition of 5% sterile defibrinated rabbit blood enriches the media. Crystal violet acts as inhibitor for gram-positive bacteria and sodium azide inhibits gram-negative rods and non-haemolytic Streptococci.
