This medium is recommended for selective cultivation of yeasts and moulds. Tryptone and peptone provide nitrogenous and carbonaceous compounds, dextrose provides energy source. Chloramphenicol inhibits a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria which makes the medium selective for fungi.
