Tryptone Water, HiVegâ„¢ is recommended for detection of indole production. This test demonstrates the ability of certain bacteria to decompose the amino acid tryptophan to indole which accumulates in the medium. Formation of red ring at the top of the tube indicates indole production. This medium is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk.
